On July 24, 2003, Tonya Mitcham, a mother of four, was driving on I-75 in South Georgia in a severe rainstorm and was fatally struck by a Terminix Company utility truck, which slid out of control and crossed the median, killing Tonya and gravely injuring one of her surviving children, Mallory. The Terminix truck had extremely worn out tires, one with 87,000 miles on it, and was sent out in inclement weather despite two employee requests for new tires.
